[Author's Note: I have cited the potential for a large quake and tsunami near Japan in several publications, including the the October 2004 article (below). I was deeply saddened to learn of the tragedy of the earthquake and tsunami affecting several countries, including Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, Malaysia, Myanmar and other countries. It will take the efforts of many friends and neighbors in other countries to help with the process of healing and recovery. A large quake off of the coast of Sumatra on March 28, 2005 caused further damage.
In August of 2005, Hurricane Katrina Devastated 90,000 square miles of the United States. Unlike the Tsunami, there was advance warning of the event. More than a million people are homeless and in need of help. While many made it to safety, their homes were destroyed in the storm or after several breaches in the levees of New Orleans.]
