A metrics framework for software projects

Abstract
Practical Software
Measurements (PSM) is a process and framework for producing a measurement plan
for software projects. It was developed with guidance from the US DoD Joint
Logistics Command, which sponsors the support center. It is in use by many
organizationsdoing both DoD and commercial software. The process enables the
project to select measurements from the needs of the project team, the
capability of the organization and the needs of the project. The presentation
will introduce the framework, its application to typical projects and the
support available for users.
About the Presenter
Mark Muehlhausen retired from Motorola in 2006
after 34 years. He has a BSEE as well as graduate study at Iowa State U., an
MBA from Roosevelt U. and will receive the MSQA from California State U. in
2007. At Motorola he was involved with hardware and software design and
management. During his last 12 years there he was a software quality engineer
and manager in cellular telephone equipment businesses. His computer
experience goes back to programming tube type machines while still in high
school in the early 1960s. For five years he also ran a small business
doing LAN installation and maintenance for small businesses.

will provide a short update of his observations from the SEPG 2007 Conference.
He will focus on key themes from SEPG 2007 and compare this conference to the
SEPG 2002 Conference that he attended.
About the Presenter
Dr. Larry Dribin is president of Pearl Street
Group, Inc., an IT consulting company focused on IT Process Improvement. In
addition to his consulting practice, he is an adjunct Professor in Software
Engineering at DePaul University of Chicago. He is a past Director with
C-SPIN, and is a frequent speaker on software process improvement and IT
Metrics.

Directions
From I-90 Northwest Tollway exit North on
Barrington Road. Take Barrington Road to Lakewood Blvd (2nd light) and
turn East (right) onto Lakewood Blvd. Turn right into the AT&T Campus
Centers West Employee Entrance (the first entrance past Eagle Way) and
follow the signs to the West Parking Structures.
Parking is available in covered lots W2 or W3
and additional parking is available in the upper level parking lot W1. Look
for parking spaces towards the west side of the parking structures. The
Institute Building, located across the road (west of the parking structures),
is approximately a 3 to 5 minute walk from the parking structure.
