Guest Speaker Profiles:

Sen. Adlai E. Stevenson, a former US Senator, is Board Chairman of SC&M Investment Management Company, an investment banking firm with offices in Chicago, Palm Beach, Tokyo and an affiliate office in San Mateo. Mr. Stevenson was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1964; to the office of Illinois State Treasurer in 1996, and twice  to the United States Senate. He is a director and past President of the US Committee of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), Chairman of the Japan America Society of Chicago, former Chairman of the US Midwest Japan Association, and Director of the Pacific Basin Council. He is the recipient of many honorary degrees and other awards, including Japan’s Order of the Sacred Treasure with gold and silver star.

Mr. Yoshihiko Saeki was named President of the Japan External Trade Organization in June, 1998. He joined Japan’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1963, following graduation from Faculty of Law, Tokyo University. He has served MITI in a number of positions, and has additionally held positions with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Most recently he was Senior Executive Director of the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan.

Mr. Mitchell R. Fulscher was born and raised in Chicago and was a Partner with Arthur Andersen working with Banking and Capital Market clients here until he transferred  to his Tokyo office in 1986.  He served Andersen in Japan as a Senior Partner until recently becoming a Senior Director. During the past 5 years, Mr. Fulscher has been assisting US companies in entering Japan through Merger & Acquisition or Joint Venture and Strategic Alliance as well as de novo entry. He is also involved with the integration of Asahi organisation and Andersen in Japan. Mr. Fulscher has also recently joined with Leo Melamed in Chicago as an Associate.

Dr. Arthur I. Cyr serves as the first A. W. and Mary Margaret Clausen Distinguished Professor of Political Economy and World Business, and Director of the Clausen Center for World Business, at Carthage College in Kenosha Wisconsin. Previously, he was President of the World Trade Center Chicago Association, Vice President of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, a faculty member and administrator at UCLA, and a program officer at the Ford Foundation in the International and Education/Research Divisions.  He is the author of four books on international relations and British politics and articles on politics and foreign policy in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Mr. Larry Spear is Co-Founder of Go2Call, based in Evanston. IL. As Go2Call’s strategy leader, Mr. Spear is responsible for directing operations and also manages development and integration of new web technologies. He is actively involved in forming partnerships with leading Internet portals, ISPs and wireless companies around the world. Prior to founding Go2Call, Mr. Spear worked for eight years as a Principal Consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in New York. He specialized in managing global technology strategy projects for several Fortune 500 companies.
